Housing
While not a requirement of a successful chapter, Phi Kappa Psi recognizes the benefits associated with groups being housed. Approximately 70 percent of all Phi Kappa Psi chapters are housed in some capacity. Others rent smaller properties for the purpose of central gatherings for the chapter. Property sizes range from less than 1,000 square feet to nearly 38,000. Ages range from the early 1800's to the most modern of structures.
Each of the Fraternity's chapters must have its own, legally active alumni/house corporation. This group is the alumni governing arm of the chapter. It works to research, acquire and maintain suitable housing for the chapter, while also managing much of the alumni relations for the group. While many chapter properties are now owned and controlled by the university, all Phi Kappa Psi properties are, in some ways, controlled locally.

An important part to assuring the safety and sustainability of our chapter properties is making sure that our members are invested in the operation of our chapter houses. Unfortunately, gifts to local house corporations are not tax deductible, making it difficult to solicit support from members. Proposed legislation would change that...
The Collegiate Housing & Infrastructure Act (CHIA) is a bill that would allow our members to give tax-deductible gifts directly to local house corporations. This would dramatically change the landscape of how we operate our properties. With the average age of our properties being 74-years-old, and safety improvements being needed on an annual basis, this bill would provide a major advantage for Phi Kappa Psi and all Greek life moving forward.
